(Tips for the Trip DR 2010) ...Every person going on the campaign should read the tips several times.  They will help answer many of the questions you have.

As the work continues to grow and flourish we are so thankful.  Words cannot express our excitement about the work being done in Santiago.  The city and its people are so friendly and clean and full of joy.  Everyone is so kind and receptive.  After only a few months work in Santiago, God has truly blessed the team's efforts.  Over 105 people are attending worship.

This year our main thrust will be evangelism each day with a VBS for the young people and adult classes for men and women.  We will also have a special Ladies Day on Saturday.  All the ladies from nearby congregations will be invited.

Helping others is such a rewarding experience.  Not only do others benefit from our help, but quite often, we become a much better person through the experience. We are commanded to be imitators of Christ and his teachings.  Christ is the master of compassion and concern for others.  We hope to reach many souls with God's Word.

Colossians 3:12-14.  Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

History of the Santiago Team...

Our work in Santiago de los Caballeros, continues to meet with great success, being blessed by God.  Christian Cruz and Jose Alvarez and their families are part of a 8 person team that began work there in January 2006.  The city, Santiago...is located about 2 hours from Santa Domingo, the capital.  It is a modern city, with a population of around 670.000.  There are four small congregations in the city with a membership of under 200 total.  The churches there, began over 15 years ago, but were not growing.  None of the had a full time preacher.

The 7 person team comes to North Jackson through the Continent of Great Cities.  This effort is overseen by the elders of the Central Church of Christ in Amarillo, Texas.  Cooperating with dozens of sponsoring churches, they have been recruiting, training, placing, and caring for mission teams throughout Central and South America for over 25 years.  These teams have established churches in over 20 major cities, which in turn, serve as centers for evangelizing their respective areas and planting other churches.  After helping place over twenty teams of North Americans in South America, Continent of Great Cities accepted the challenge of helping place a mission team composed entirely of Latin Americans.  The team of six men, three of them married, graduates of the Baxter Institute in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, after careful planning and preparation entered Bogotá, Colombia in May 2003.  These young people came from six different countries, primarily from Central America.  After one year they had baptized over 40, with 130 meeting on Sundays and growing steadily.  The newly established church is demonstrating that church growth does not have to be excruciatingly slow, as it has typically been in South America.

Thus, we are praying for the continued success of the Continent of Great Cities philosophies and efforts in the Dominican Republic.  The 7 year goals for the Dominican Republic team are:

  • Begin new congregation no later that January 2006.
  • Develop the congregation to have all the following by December 2011:
    • 500 members
    • at least 50 adult men
    • at least 50 trained teachers (men, women, and young people)
    • biblical organization
    • its own adequate and accessible meeting place
    • will be self-supporting
    • will cooperate with the development of existing church
    • will support its own preacher and at least one missionary
    • will have begun at least one other congregation in the area
    • will develop plans for establishing ten more churches in the region

North Jackson, through prayerful efforts, plans to support and assist this team in every way possible.  Your prayers and considerations are a must!!  Through everyone's efforts we will meet the goals......
